Have you ever thought about someone moments before they called?
Walked into a room and immediately sensed the atmosphere without anyone saying a word?
Met someone for the first time and instantly felt comfortable—or unexpectedly cautious?
Many people describe these experiences as coincidence. I believe these moments are examples of your intuition quietly communicating with you. The challenge is learning to recognize its unique language.

What Is Intuition?
Intuition is often described as an inner knowing that arises without literally being aware of something. Rather than analyzing facts, intuition provides subtle impressions that can help guide us through everyday life.
You might get a vision, a knowing, a feeling, hear a message, or even smell a whiff of something come “randomly” into your awareness… seemingly out of nowhere! There isn’t one correct way to experience intuition.
Five Types of Intuitive Abilities:
- Clairvoyance clear seeing – psychically see images, people, etc.
- Clairaudience clear hearing – psychically hear messages from your higher self, guides, people, music, etc.
- Claircognizance clear knowing – psychically know things – location, date, the why, etc.
- Clairsentience or Empathic abilities clear feeling – psychically or physically feel energy and emotions
- Clairalience clear smelling – psychically smell things – You might smell bread baking, smoke, etc.
Why We Stop Listening
As children, many of us naturally trusted our instincts. We imagined freely. We noticed subtle details. We asked questions without worrying whether they sounded unusual.
Over time, life often teaches us to rely almost exclusively on the obvious. While logical thinking is incredibly valuable, constantly analyzing every decision can make it difficult to hear the quieter voice of intuition.
Our intuition doesn’t disappear. It simply becomes easier to overlook.
Examples of Intuition in Action
As you move throughout your day, begin noticing whether your intuition communicates through one or more of these experiences:
- A sudden feeling that you should take a different route or change your plans.
- Thinking about someone just before hearing from them.
- An unexplained sense of peace—or uneasiness—in a particular place.
- A recurring symbol, dream, or meaningful coincidence that keeps appearing.
- A quiet inner knowing that gently encourages you toward a decision.
None of these experiences automatically prove something mystical has happened. However, paying attention to recurring patterns can help you better understand how your own intuition communicates directly to you.
Building Trust
One of the biggest misconceptions is that intuitive people never question themselves. In reality, everyone questions themselves.
Developing intuition isn’t about eliminating doubt. It’s about becoming more aware. The more often you notice and reflect on your intuitive impressions, the easier they become to recognize. Like learning a musical instrument or a new language, intuition grows stronger through consistent practice.
Creating Space for Inner Wisdom
Our lives are often filled with constant notifications, conversations, responsibilities, and distractions.
Intuition prefers quieter moments.
You don’t need hours of meditation each day. Sometimes simply taking a few slow breaths before making an important decision is enough to create space for your inner wisdom to be heard. You simply need to become more aware of the guidance that has likely been with you all along. Learning to trust yourself is a journey. One gentle step at a time.
Soul Practice
Throughout the next 24 hours, pay attention to your very first impression in three different situations.
It might be choosing which road to take, deciding whether to answer a phone call, selecting a book, or meeting someone new.
Before your logical mind begins analyzing, simply notice your first feeling.
Write it down.
Then later, you can reflect on what actually happened. Did you take the road that felt heavier and run into construction or traffic? Did you answer that phone call and find out it was from an old friend? Did you randomly choose a book and that third chapter really moved you emotionally? Did you feel compelled to uncharacteristically walk into a local coffee shop and feel at home speaking to someone in line—and now you’re friends?
The goal isn’t to prove whether your intuition was “right.” The goal is to become familiar with how your intuition naturally speaks to you.
Journal Prompt
Reflect on these questions:
- When do I feel most connected to my intuition?
- What usually causes me to doubt myself?
- Have I ever ignored an intuitive feeling and later wished I had listened?
Write without judging yourself. Every insight helps you better understand your unique intuitive ability.
